Mountain Jam!

Image

It’s that time of year again – it’s Mountain Jam time! Weddings, Tents & Events has supported Mountain Jam for years, and we’re in the midst of setting up in Hunter Mountain, NY!

Because this is such a spectacular event, and Weddings, Tents & Events has been buzzing about it, I thought I would look up what it’s all about. A 3-day event, it sounds amazing, with funky-fab accommodations, and amazing musicians such as The Roots, Charles Bradley & His Extrordinaires, and Ben Fold Five (not to mention many, many more amazing bands, musicians, and DJ’s). And it’s not just the music that’s attracting these festival-goers; following the opening ceremony, Mountain Jam also offers Yoga, Zumba, therapeutic massages, performances by the Shilly Shally Fire Troupe and Karma Wash. Winter ski-lifts are magically transformed into Sky Rides, and attendants are welcomed to the farmers market, the beer and wine garden, Frisbee tournaments, and the Mushroom Grove.

We are so happy to be a part of this amazing festival, and all the prep is keeping us busy – and we love it!

Don’t Let the Weather Get You Down

Clear Top Tent

Personally, I find the idea of unpredictable Vermont weather terrifying. While planning an event, you always hope for a beautiful summer day, not too hot, not too cold, sun shining, a cool breeze blowing…

But this is Vermont, and it seems that the weather here is even more unpredictable than anywhere else in the country. I’ve come to learn that when the weatherman predicts “50% chance of rain”, he usually means he has no idea, and it could go either way.

To be fair, I don’t think that any amount of meteorologist study could help them figure out the out of control nature of the Vermont sky.

Planning an event, in general, is stressful. As someone who has planned events in Vermont, a fair share of them being outdoors (because really, who can resist the beautiful landscape), I always like to know my options in case the weather turns poor.

It’s pretty rare that Weddings, Tents & Events will not be able to accommodate many last minute tent changes. Since I’m still new here, I asked Jenna about some typical cases that event hosts and clients face when planning an outdoor wedding. Here are some of the answers she gave me:

Q: If I find out that my fears are confirmed, how soon do I need to order a tent?

A: We always recommend that if you’re having an outdoor event you rent a tent regardless of the chance of rain. Rain isn’t the only thing I worry about when putting on an event outside – summers can get hot, and the sun only makes the heat more intense. It’s always nice to have some coverage, whether you’re anticipating a little rain, or a bright hot summer day.

However, some people are not planning to have a tent at all-whether it be for reasons of budget or aesthetics. The best advice I can give is to check the weather forecast the Monday before the event. If it looks ominous, plan for that.

Otherwise, don’t be afraid to call us and ask!

Q: If I already have a tented or indoor reception, but an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour, how could I prepare for the bad weather?

A: Weddings, Tents & Events offers smaller tents to accommodate your guests for the ceremony and cocktail hour. For especially rough weather, we also offer walkways that will shield guests in transit to each area of your event.

Q: What kind of tents do you offer?

A: We offer a large variety of tents that come in all different sizes. Styles include:

  • Clear Top
  • High Peak
  • Frame Tents for smaller events and
  • Rounded and Peaked Modular Tents

For more information visit our website: http://weddingstentsevents.com/interior.php/pid/4/sid/1

Q: What if we have a last minute emergency or realize on the event day that we forgot to order something?

A: We always recommend that you review your rental order 10 days before your event, and compare it to the caterer’s and bar service orders. However, if the unexpected happens, you can call our emergency pager and someone will get back to you asap. (802) 749-3258

Fun New Product from Top Hat!

Image

We talked to Top Hat today and they told us some awesome news: They have their new photo booth in! We have to admit, we love a good round of photo booth fun, and this one seems really spectacular. As the host of the party, you’ll get a copy of all of the photos people took, as well as an extra copy of them on a DVD.

If you’re already looking for a DJ, why not save yourself some time and rent them for your photo booth as well? We love them, we’re sure you will too.

Getting to Know You

Hi readers! As some of you may have seen on the Weddings, Tents & Events facebook page, my name is Maddy and I’m the new intern! I thought it would be nice to tell you all a little about myself, because hopefully I’ll be seeing or hearing from many of you!

I just finished my junior year at Champlain College, where I’m majoring in Event Management, under the Business Division. There, I work with the school, teaching students about Financial Sophistication, as well as working outside of school. Since I started living in Burlington, I’ve worked for a wedding venue, making contracts, signing clients and vendors, and building relationships. I’ve worked as banquet staff, a wedding planner, and taken classes in guest services.

I always knew I wanted to be involved in events. I’ve always been very close to my family, and coming from a very italian one, we always had people over to cook for them. My mother would host these lavish parties, and completely enthrall herself with preparations for days beforehand. Growing up, I watched her pull chairs and tables in, press the table cloths, and shine the silverware, perfectly placing the plates, candles, centerpieces and napkins. All of this seemed so magical to me, and when I was old enough to have my own dinners, I did just that. Working in the event industry, I couldn’t be happier. I am so excited to be working at Weddings, Tents and Events, with the lovely Jenna.

So if you call or come in on a Wednesday or Friday, you’ll hear from me! I look forward to it.

Peek into the Past: The Wedding of WT&E Owners

Today Anastasia brought in an album from a very special wedding…her own wedding! It was so much fun to look through the photos from their wedding on September 28, 2002 at the Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield, VT.

Anastasia has such lovely memories from their wedding day. You can tell by the photos by Dennis Curan that it was a very happy day for them both.

Their floral designer was Nancy, from A Schoolhouse Garden (one of my personal favorites) and they rocked out to Belizbeha soul and jazz.

It is so much fun to see how the wedding trends have changed from 10 years ago. Floral designers, caterers, and friends-share photos from your wedding day so we can get a peek into your past!

Tented Weddings in your Very own Backyard

Many of our couples this year are choosing to use their very own backyard with a tented wedding to house their weddings. Now that the snow has melted and we are entering spring, jump into your wellies and venture outside as it is time to begin planning how you will transform your backyard into a gorgeous wedding venue.

Look around-how can you utilize what you already have to your advantage? Here are a few things that I like to see…

-Trees to hang lanterns from

-An outdoor patio  surrounded by flower beds for cocktail hour or the ceremony

-A fence along the driveway that can be embellished with flowers in mason jars

-An in ground pool is the perfect location for cocktail hour…float candles or mums on the surface for more ambiance

-A stone fire pit could create the perfect atmosphere for an after-dinner s’mores station

Happy Planning!

A Snaffle Sweet Tasting

The tasting on Sunday hosted by WT&E in our new showroom with Snaffle Sweets was such a success! Here are a few photos of the wonderful displays June created. The showroom was permeated with smells of maple and bacon, coffee and butter cream!

If you want a space to display your event related talented-photography, design, sweets, or food- ask us about hosting it here, in our showroom!
